Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

The school’s SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) is Mr Robinson(Headteacher). Our designated Governor for SEND is Joe Kinsella.

We are committed to ensuring that every child in our school, whatever their needs, achieves their very best in all areas, and in line with their peers. Teaching and learning in all subjects at Brompton and Sawdon Primary school is underpinned by the above statement. We are determined that pupils with SEND fully access and experience success in all subjects and have the highest expectations for them, at the same time recognising that these might be realised through smaller steps of progress. Rather than simplifying tasks, we aim to provide the support, adaptations and resources that they need to achieve learning objectives in line with their peers.

Given the relatively small number of pupils in the school, we are able to offer a fully personalised approach to supporting the children. Close links with parents is central to shaping and reviewing the support that we put in place, as are the opinions of the children. To help with this process we hold termly Review meetings with families to review the support given in the previous term and plan the next. As with other areas, we encourage parents to have an ongoing dialogue with us regarding SEND. Parents are always welcome in school.

As well as taking  a personalised approach to provision, all classes also adopt common approaches that are influenced by EEF research. You can find our Provision Maps (documents outlining how we support pupils with different needs) below.
